But we do have a super-effective process that makes it SEEM like we're magicians when it comes to helping small to mid-sized companies succeed with their data.

We've built this process out of over 20 years of experience doing this.

We call it our Actionable Insights Framework - and it just stone-cold works.

Step 1

Right Questions

Seems easy.

Too easy.

And that's why most business intelligence practitioners and companies ignore this crucial step.

But this is THE step that sets up a company's transition to becoming more data-driven for success.

In this step, we spend time with an organization, having them tell us what their strategic objectives are.
(we don't help them define strategy - that's not our bag - we leave that to the strategy wizards)

Then we take them through our tools and process to clearly translate those strategic objectives into specific questions that must be answered, in specific way, over a specific timeframe to move the company toward those strategic objectives.

Right Answers

This step has four subcomponents.

And guess what, most business intelligence practitioners ONLY worry about the first one.
(and that's why our approach and results are so much better than theirs)

We take the time to ensure that the answers to the questions from Step 1 are:

  • Technically Accurate: This is where most BI practitioners focus exclusively
  • Use The Correct Data: A key to BI success is to challenge assumptions and drill down deep to make sure the correct data for answering that specific question is being used
  • Easy-To-Act-On: Effective BI is about driving companies forward and taking action.  If answers provided by BI leave the user confused, unsure what to do with it, or open to alternative interpretations - it's not a RIGHT answer
  • Timely: A "perfect" answer that is delivered after a decision or action was required is a useless answer.  We pay a LOT of attention to decision cadences and timelines when planning and creating our BI solutions

Step 3

Right People

This step is all about making sure the right answers get to the right people.

This is another place that a lot of BI practitioners trip up.

The trick is that every question from Step 1, usually needs at least two different answers because there are usually two different types of people involved.

People Who Need To Take Action
These are the people in the organization who will be making decisions and acting on the answers giving.

The way the are provided answers (and the actual answers themselves) must be communicated in a way that allows them to get on with it and do their job.

People Who Monitor Results
These a generally executives, managers, and supervisors who help direct and manage the team members who take the actions.

A common problem in BI projects is that the solution only contemplates one or the other of tese two types of people.

We make sure to consider both types to efforts to become more data-driven bear fruit.

Repeat

Becoming data-driven is a process and we drive that process by doing this cycle over and over.

Every quarter (or sometimes month) we revisit the Right Questions, Right Answers, and Right People steps to add additional insights for more team members.

This doesn't mean the previous answers stop.

They continue and the reporting and insights continue to grow.

Over time this results in the entire organization becoming data-driven.

And that means decisions are made across the entire organization in a way that makes those decisions better, faster, and less-risky.
